Here are my thoughts...few though they may be

What book from childhood made the greatest impact on what you read now?

I remember reading In the Hall of the Dragon King by Stephen Lawhead and that was a real turning point for me. Up until that point I read only historical books (yes I was that nerdy) or horse story fluff. But with the first chapter of that book I discovered a world that intrigued my imagination, my sense of history and just enveloped me. So for those of you who frown down at the world of science fiction...poo to you with knobs on. I am still extremely discerning in what I will or won't read in the genre but a very well written and rich science fiction is my favorite book to reach for.

I know it isn't from childhood, but while I was in Ireland 5 years ago I read McCarthy's Bar by Pete McCarthy. What an absolutely wonderful book!!!!!!!! Since then I have gone on to enjoy the non-fiction traveler-esque genre with The Blue Latitudes, Almost French and An Embarrassment of Mangos. Any of those books, I highly, highly, HIGHLY recommend. (except if you are in Michigan winter you might not want to read An Embarrassment of Mangos. You will read it and it is so close you will feel as though when you finish you should have a tan...but the book ends and you look down at your arm and it is still new maggot colored pale and you look out the window and there is nothing but gray sky, gray trees, and gray snowy muddy ground to stare right back at you. It can drive a reader mad)

Can someone from the book club help me out? I don't know how to post on the book club website thingie. HELP I'm challenged by technology!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

When you write your entry, there should be a pulldown box just above where you choose your icon. Next to that box are the words "Post To" (or something like that) - it's defaulted to post to your own journal, but if you pull down the box it'll have the commuinities you belong to and you can select the one you're posting to.
